We regret to announce that Dr. Pavel Giacintov passed away on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018. We are very sorry for his loss.

Dr. Pavel Giacintov was the General Manager of DRG spol. s.r.o. located in the Czech Republic. Dr. Giacintov helped generate ideas of forming DRG representation in Czechoslovakia and as a result, DRG Spol. S.R.O. was founded in November 1991.

Due to the nuclear power plant accident in Chernobyl on April 26, 1986, Dr. Giacintov began running radioactive monitoring within his laboratory. He briefly assisted in the outside monitoring of a nuclear power plant in Dukovany, approximately 40 miles from Brno. In addition, Dr. Giacintov established a laboratory for controlling radioactive contamination in food as part of a global environmental pollution monitory program (Program UNSCEAR).

From 1978 to 1980, Dr. Giacintov was the Coordinator of Research Program involving Trace Elements in Animal Nutrition. He was also nominated as United Nations Development Programme expert for education restoration in the Veterinary Faculty at Kabul University (program was interrupted due Afghanistan war).
Dr. Giacintov’s early career included being a guest expert in 1964 with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the program of global radioactive pollution of food. He later participated in nutrition programs coordinated through Joint FAO/IAEA Division in Vienna.

Previously, Dr. Giacintov worked at the State Veterinary Institute in Brno. He was very active with laboratory conversion with a particular emphasis on practical use of radioisotopes for diagnostics in radioimmunoassay, physiology, endocrinology, and nutritional metabolism.

Dr. Giacintov studied at Veterinary University in Brno, Czech Republic with postgraduate education on food hygiene after receiving a baccalaureate from Lycee Francais de Brno. With a firm understanding in the discipline of biochemistry, Dr. Giacintov took various courses in Biochemistry at Science Faculty Masaryk´s University and courses in the basics of radiobiology, isotopes and radiation protection. Dr. Giacintov was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia.
