Description

The DRG Thyroglobulin Microplate Elisa test is intended to be used for the quantitative determination of Thyroglobulin levels in human serum.

The test is for in vitro diagnostic use only.Human thyroglobulin (Thyroglobulin) is a large glycoprotein (680kD) that is stored in the follicular colloid of the thyroid gland. It functionsas a prohormone in the intrathyroid synthesis of primary thyroid hormones like Triiodothyronine (T3) andThyroxine (T4).Thyroglobulin is elevated inthyroid follicular and papillary carcinoma, thyroid adenoma, subacutethyroiditis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves Disease. Thyroglobulin levelsare found to be normal in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma. Serialmeasurements of Thyroglobulin is most useful in detecting recurrence ofdifferentiated thyroid carcinoma following surgical resection or radioactiveiodine ablation. Thyroglobulin determination is used as an adjunct to iodinescanning but not as a replacement for it. Assessment of Thyroglobulin levelsaids in management of infants with congenital hypothyroidism.Thyroglobulin determination has been done withvarious methods using direct competitive binding R1A and double antibodysandwich IRMA or Elisa, of which latter is more useful. All these methodssuffer from interference by endogenous autoantibodies to Thyroglobulin. It isuseful to determine the effect of autoantibodies before screening such patientsfor levels of Thyroglobulin. DRGInternational providesThyroglobulin autoanibody Elisa to rule out such interference.
